Handling Conflicts
IN THIS ARTICLE:
Review and resolve conflicts for coding, redactions, and multiple sources in the Propagation Issues grid.
Conflict types & definitions
Conflict Type | What does this mean? | How can I resolve it? |
Coding conflict |
A coding field choice manually set on one or more Duplicates does not match the Source choice |
•Select Overwrite conflicting Duplicates and run Propagate •Manually change coding on Duplicate with conflict •Exclude Duplicate with coding conflict from ReviewSmart |
Redaction conflict |
A redaction manually set on one or more Duplicates does not match the redactions on the Source |
•Select Overwrite conflicting Duplicates and run Propagate coding & redactions •Exclude Duplicate with redaction conflict from ReviewSmart |
Multiple Source documents manually set |
More than one Duplicate was designated as the Source | •Uncheck the REVS_ManuallySetSource field for Duplicates that should NOT be the Source |
Conflicting images |
The imaged Duplicate does not match the imaged Source | •Delete the image on the Duplicate and then run Propagate coding & redactions •Exclude the conflicting Duplicate from ReviewSmart •Manually set the Duplicate as the Source |
Coding conflict
If any of the propagation fields on the duplicate document have existing values that are different from the source document when included for ReviewSmart, they would be flagged as having a Coding conflict in the Issues column of the Duplicate documents grid.
Overwrite Coding
If you decide the coding on the duplicate(s) can be overwritten with the values on the source document, choose one of the propagation options from the dropdown.
Check the box Overwrite conflicting Duplicates.
Click Run.
Warning
If Overwrite conflicting Duplicates is checked, clicking Run will eliminate all coding done separately on the Duplicates with no warning and no recovery.
Exclude
If you decide the coding on the duplicate needs to remain intact, allowing other duplicate documents in the same MD5 hash family of documents to continue to receive propagation from the source document, you can exclude specific duplicate documents by unchecking the REVS_Include field in Relativity.
Note: Documents excluded in this way will no longer be considered by ReviewSmart for any purpose.
Good to know
All of the resolution options take effect only after running Analyze or Propagate.
Redactions conflict
If any of the duplicate documents have existing redactions that are different from the source document, they will be flagged as having a Redactions conflict in the Issues column of the Duplicate documents grid.
Overwrite Redactions
If you decide the coding on the duplicate(s) can be overwritten with the redactions on the source document, choose Propagate coding and redactions from the dropdown.
Check the box Overwrite conflicting Duplicates.
Click Run.
Warning
If Overwrite conflicting Duplicates is checked, clicking Run will eliminate all redactions done separately on the Duplicates with no warning and no recovery.
Exclude
If you decide the redactions on the duplicate need to remain intact, allowing other duplicate documents in the same MD5 hash family of documents to continue to receive propagation from the source document, you can exclude specific duplicate documents by unchecking the REVS_Include field in Relativity.
Note: Documents excluded in this way will no longer be considered by ReviewSmart for any purpose.
Designate Duplicate as new Source
If you decide that the coding and/or redactions on a duplicate document should be the standard, you can designate that document as the new source document by checking the REVS_ManuallySetSource field. If this document was previously in the lock folder, it will also be unlocked.
Multiple sources
If more than one duplicate document has been manually designated as the source document, it would be flagged as having a Multiple sources in the Issues column of the Duplicate documents grid.
Choose new source
Decide which one of the several manually set source documents should be the new source document and uncheck the REVS_ManuallySetSource field for the other duplicate documents.
Conflicting Images
When a Duplicate image differs from the Source image, it will be flagged as having a Conflicting Image in the Issues column of the Duplicate documents grid.
Duplicates cannot have an existing pristine image and also receive a propagated redaction, as propagation is based on the redaction coordinates from the Source image. To ensure the Duplicate redactions are an exact match to the Source, the redactions will point to the image used by the Source record.
To resolve the issue, you can:
- Delete the image from the Duplicate, then run Propagate coding and redactions
- Exclude the Duplicate from the tool (Note: Documents excluded in this way will no longer be considered by ReviewSmart for any purpose)
or
- Set the Duplicate as the Source and run Propagate coding and redactions (noting in this scenario that the original Source must not have an image as well)
